free individuals - free markets - free world trade

Inspiration

I am inspired by the "classical liberal" writings of Adam Smith, John Locke, Milton Friedman and Friedrich von Hayek. In Anglo-Saxon countries the meaning of the word "liberal" has deviated from its original meaning, to include state intervention to improve other people's material situation. I do not agree with this deviation, which makes a mockery of its original meaning. Coercive appropriation of individual's hard earned property is immoral in that it negates a human's right to self determination, and reduces humans to subjects of the collective. This can never be an acceptable solution to a legitimate concern for poverty.

I believe in the free market economy, which allows the pie to grow - benefiting all - rather than the socialist belief in redistribution of scarcity.

That said, I do believe that state help to the needy is acceptable - as long as there is a consensus or quasi consensus. So it all depends upon the level of state help. To quote Ralph Harris: I support a safety net, but not a safety hammock.
